Benefits of using power point in the classroom

Benefits of using power point in the classroom

PowerPoint is a very powerful tool that we can use inside the classroom to improve our teaching and learning. It stimulates the interest of the children in learning and teacher in teaching. This is because PowerPoint enhances the comprehension of the students and the teaching becomes flawless, much easier and authentic.

As per my experience (school days) without the use power point in the classroom has lot of inconvenience both for teachers, as well as students. For instance, I was in school days, I have never been taught with the help of PowerPoint (as there were no facilities). Teachers teaches either verbally or writing on the board. While they teach, most of us miss some important points, losses the interest of learning and sometimes fall sleep. As our learning all depends on the teacher and the rigid textbook, the knowledge we gain was very narrow and incomplete.

Through my teaching practice I come to knew that the use of PowerPoint in the classroom has lot of benefits. Firstly, the PowerPoint presentation gains the attention of the students and it also boost up their interest in the learning. They ask lot of questions as and when they see something probing images and videos. I knew that more learning was taking place with the help of PowerPoint in the classroom. For example, there is a topic about the Life of Lord Buddha in class six social studies. I taught this topic with the help of PowerPoint (taking students to IT lap). Students responded more and they concentrated well when I showed them a short video clip on the life of Lord Buddha compared to the normal classes.

Secondly, the teachers don’t need to put lot of energy in explaining the difficult concept as we can show the authentic pictures, graphics and video as well. Moreover, it saves a lot of time because teachers do not have to explain everything and most of concepts could be known through the use of PowerPoint. We can also repeat and pause as and when students have doubts or confusion. Never the less, students can take the PowerPoint presentation in their thumb drive for future reference which is very convenient.
